A special concert, opening the festival a night early, with the popular Swedish acoustic trio, with special guest Darol Anger.

Vajas
(Norway / Sámiland)
This year’s discovery -- a trio from northern Norway that combine “rocked up Saami yoik, sensitive electronica, and seductive fiddling.”

Gjallarhorn
(Finland)
The extraordinary Finnish singer Jenny Wilhelms returns to the festival with some new band members and a new album, Rimfaxe.

Maria Kalaniemi Trio

A special concert celebrating the Finnish Tango (with room for dancing).

Loituma
(Finland)
Loituma is a young quartet who combine the Finnish vocal tradition with the exquisite sounds of the kantele (Finnish harp).

The Nordic/Celtic quartet's 2005 recording du da has made them a staple on the British concert circuit. And Nordic Roots Festival-goers are still buzzing about their 2004 festival performance!

Hoven Droven
(Sweden)
The Swedish folk-rock quintet blew the roof off the Cedar at last year's festival, and the performance is being released as a 2-CD set Jumping at the Cedar. Join us for their CD-release concert!

Workshops

All workshops for 2006 will take place at:

Ferguson Hall is a short walking distance from The Cedar - see map.

Space is limited. You can sign up for any workshop in advance by sending an email to Linda Thiel, NRF workshop coordinator. ou can also sign up at the Cedar on Thursday or Friday evening, or call 612/338-2674. If you have not signed up for a session, you may be admitted at the door only if space is available. All sessions this year will take place in Room 105 at Ferguson Hall.

The workshop fee is $25 per session for participants with instruments, and $10 for silent auditors. Cash only. Admission will be collected inside each room, after everyone is seated. Time is limited, please have exact change ready as you take your seat. Note that workshop fees are not covered by the Festival Pass.

Hotel Information

Holiday Inn Metrodome is the sponsoring hotel for the Nordic Roots Festival. To reserve a room call 612-333-4646 and ask for reservations. Although it is likely that the hotel will be sold out during the Festival weekend, tell the reservation agent you want to reserve a room from the "Public Block" for the Nordic Roots Festival; there may have been cancellations. Rooms are available on a first come, first served basis so make your reservation soon. The rate for the festival is $104 per night.
